Channeling my inner Martha Stewart

Ok, so there is absolutely no part of me that slightly resembles Martha Stewart, but hey, what's life without ambition. ;-) I do, however, enjoy spending time doing some fun little crafty things. And I loooove looking at fun crafty things that other (more crafty) people do. So I thought I'd share some of my latest creations and maybe someone will be inspired to create some fun things of their own.

I've been having tons of fun with my new Silhouette...here are a few things I've made with it recently...

This is one of my favorite projects. I bought some cheap glass canisters
at Michaels and used my Silhouette to etch the glass with labels. So fun!

I've also done a few things that you can do if you don't have a Silhouette (or you're welcome to come over and use mine! hmm...hot chocolate, cookies, crafting...sounds like a GIRLS NIGHT!)

I found a lampshade I really liked from Pottery Barn Kids awhile back for Kaytie's room, but I didn't want to pay what they were asking...call me cheap. So I bought some flowers from Michaels and an inexpensive lamp on clearance at Target and viola!

While we're in Kaytie's room, I'll show you her new favorite thing...the "flowers" hanging from her ceiling. I made these sweet little deals using a package of tissue paper in the Dollar Zone at Target and twist ties (like you find with your garbage bags). They're hung with fishing line and thumb tacks. We're high class, what can I say. ;-)



Cost about a dollar for all of them. She loves them!

The Beginning of a Beautiful Relationship...

After much comparison, I decided not to purchase the Cricut, but to get the Silhouette SD instead.

With the Silhouette you don't have to purchase cartridges, you only purchase the images that you want, usually for .99 a piece. There are also free downloads every week and subscriptions you can get to make it more affordable to purchase your designs. Not only that, but you can make your own designs. I was so fortunate to find a good deal on one on Amazon and use the gift card from my husband's employer and left over gift card from my birthday. So I didn't end up having to pay very much for it, but I may end up spending a fortune on materials. (hehe)

I've been playing with it ever since I got it yesterday and I am in love. I thought I'd share a few things that I've done since getting it yesterday afternoon.

After having such fun with vinyl, I decided to make Kaytie a shirt, so I dug a plain one out of her drawer and went to work. (or play, is probably the more appropriate word.)

I also made a couple of paper cut-outs and a gift box out of a sheet of scrapbook paper. My biggest problem now will be accomplishing anything else around here. :)

Cricut

I've been drooling forever over the Cricut machines. I REAALLLLLY want one. For the record, I don't find things that I want this badly very often. Thankfully, my husband's job gives away gift cards every year for employees and their spouses who complete a health survey. So this year I got mine to Amazon and I am soooo getting a Cricut! Now I just have to decide exactly what I'm getting. Anyone have one? I'd love to hear others' thoughts and experiences before I get mine. Can't wait to get my new toy and start playing!!!

I Love Goodwill

So, I needed to take some stuff to the Goodwill to donate last week and couldn't help peeking through store. Much to my delight I found an awesome old bedsheet, a faded lavender curtain panel, a pillow case and a shower curtain. Interesting finds, I know...but I couldn't wait to go home and repurpose my treasures! So far, Kaytie has gotten a new shirt out of the shower curtain (hoping to make a skirt and possibly some other things from it), and I've nearly finished a quilt top for her bed out of the sheet and curtain panel. The pillowcase will be either a dress for her or a nightgown. The rest of the sheet will be the back of the quilt and hopefully a valence for her window, and the scraps I'm hoping to braid into a rug for her room. Total spent for these items a la the Goodwill? About 10 bucks! Can't beat that!
